India ranks second in the production of fruits and vegetables, roughly accounting to 10-15 percent of the total global production. But what goes unnoticed is the amount of food which remains undelivered despite a timely harvest. Nearly 1/3rd of our horticultural produce, especially fruits and vegetables, are wasted on account of poor storage facilities. This results into a fluctuation of prices of those horticultural products across the globe. Cold storages play a vital role in improving value addition opportunities and creating a surplus food for agro-food products.
